In the old nissans it was possible the non-hardbody type, but now the hardbody and up style are all together with the t-case. Interchange is probably about 86 1/2 and up but not sure.

I have a repair manual, Hanes I think, that says the speedo cable comes out of the transfer case on the 4x4 and out of the transmission on the 2x2. If I called a Nissan dealer mechanic?! I suppose they LOVE to give free advice.
