Question type: Car Customization

I have a bad 5 speed manual with a 4cyl 4x4 ext cab, can the 5 speed in 2 wheel drives be interchanged with mine? what

In the old nissans it was possible the non-hardbody type, but now the hardbody and up style are all together with the t-case. Interchange is probably about 86 1/2 and up but not sure.

I have a repair manual, Hanes I think, that says the speedo cable comes out of the transfer case on the 4x4 and out of the transmission on the 2x2. If I called a Nissan dealer mechanic?! I suppose they LOVE to give free advice.
