Possible bad alternator

Asked by Mike Feb 23, 2016 at 02:57 PM about the 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my alternator checked and battery checked
and they were good.  So how's come it still won't
run but if I take a battery out of another car it starts
right up. Is my "good battery" not good? I had it
tested at a couple places to make sure its fine but
it is a Wal mart battert. But when I put the other
battery in there and pulled the negative terminal
the alternator wouldn't keep the car running. Not
even for a second.

I've still got to clean the ground on the motor but if the ground wire was that dirty it wouldn't have started right up with a different battery right?

issue is your alternator is not keeping the battery charged. you must put it all back together and do the testing listed in your other posts. With out doing the testing you are just walking around guessing in the dark. Good luck and drive safe.

Double check the amp-hr rating, CCA rating, and group number of your battery to make sure it is the correct size for your car. If it is not the correct capacity, it may not be enough run in your car. Assuming that the battery meets the specs for the car, then I would suspect an alternator issue as "dandyoun" indicated.

Also not a good idea to remove battery cable with engine running you can do that with older vehicle to check alternator but with the newer vehicle you can fry the computer.
