97 ford expedition won't kick out of 4 wheel drive

My 97 for expedition won't kick out of 4 wheel
drive. I tried disconnecting the batter and putting it
in reverse and flipping the switch. I have also put it
in neutral and flipped the switch. Nothing
happenes. Any ideas or suggestions on how to
disconnect the 4 wheel drive?

It may be an electrical problem- it will need a good mechanic- and those old Fords have a bad reputation- maybe start looking for a new car-
