2001 mercury sable heat

Asked by GuruB232P Jan 18, 2019 at 10:47 AM about the 2001 Mercury Sable LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son has this car and got mad while trying to
change the radio and just started punching the
radio area and the temp control area. I know super
stupid thing to do. But now he had no heat. All the
knobs and some of the pieces that the knobs that
connect to further in the dash were broken. We
replaced the pieces that were broken. Just stuck
some generic knobs on there, no heat. Fan speed
works, direction knob works, but just blows cold
air. My question is is out possible something else
is damaged in that area that we can easily fix our
foo you think it's just a coincidence that the heat
stopped working at the same time he decided too
punch his car? Already replaced the thermostat
that didn't help. Just don't wanna send it to the
garage If it might be something I the dash that i
can fix. Thanks.

My own online research shows that getting ONLY heat or ONLY cold from the 'climate system' often means the air door actuator isn't working. That's the device that moves a little door or flapper to mix more or less air from the heater or AC.
