should i buy a 2003 mini cooper with 177,000 miles on it?
I want a car for my husband and I to drive to work and back -round trip =40 miles--we are now driving 2002 ford explorer xlt and the mpg stinks! found this mini but not sure about the miles
That's a lot of miles, but it well taken care of worth looking at. I would bring someone along who knows Mini's well. Don't go by what the seller says too much. I have a friend that has a mini with 140,000 and it is an awesome car yet because it was very well maintained.
Check the receipts and service history - on the pre-facelift models you need to check for gearbox issues being addressed; that's the main issue. Also check for any work on electrics being carried out and if all the audio equipment works as it should. Other than that the mileage shouldn't effect too much if it's been properly looked after.
If the car has Full Service History and been looked after it should not be a problem, older Mini's can be a fortune to repair and the fuel economy ain't that good, but great fun to drive
If its a CVT (Automatic) then dont do it, if its a 5 speed then watch the gearbox and clutch. Open the Doors and lift the rubber check for rust there and at the back hatch.
