Mystery thing on dash of mini cooper s convertible

I have just got a mini Cooper s convertible 2005
but on the dash under and on the right of the
speedometer there is a silver ball looking thing can
anyone help I have added a picture.

you posted this question awhile ago... its the HVAC temp sensor for interior.
