I have a similar problem right now. Went out yesterday with the family and everything was fine. Got home and then had to go back out a few hours later and the battery light is now permanently on and I have no power steering. It's done this before temporarily (seconds at a time) after driving through a large puddle but no water on the road yesterday, so no external reason that I can think of for the light and steering problem.
