2001 mercury sable starting problem

Asked by hightest77 Feb 13, 2015 at 01:01 PM about the 2001 Mercury Sable LS Premium Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I turn the key and nothing happens. Other times it starts just fine. I have put the car in neutral and this overcame the problem one time. Good strong new battery. It has happened three times in the last 6 months

Sounds like you have a bad neutral safety switch. There is one on Ebay right now for $20. Here is a link so you can read up on it. http://www.ehow.com/list_7425651_signs-faulty-neutral-safety- switch.html

make sure your ground is good no rust where it hooks to body and engine

If it isn't the neutral safety switch, you may have a worn ignition switch. Also, as dmacdonald stated, could be a bad ground, just make sure you check ALL grounds in the system as there are several.

My 2001 Mercury Sable starts when it's cold but when it warms up it will not start
