it is not a resivior tank it is a pressure expansion tank and as the antifreeze flow through the engine it gets hot and goes through the radiator and the engine fan blows the heat out of it and the boiling hot antifreeze will expand and if it has nowhere to go the engine will overheat

I have a Ford Ranger 2009 model 3000cc engine. The coolant would go into the over flow bottle when hot but would not return to the radiator. I got the radiator checked, no leaks were found. I also changed the radiator cap
