The alternator belt broke and I am going to replace it. Should I be able to turn the alternator by hand?

Yes. Without the serpentine belt on it, it should spin freely

I thought so. My guess now is the alternator seized and thats why the belt broke. Thanks

Yep, if it does not spin by one finger the bearings or something has seized allright. You are welcome

But let's make sure of a couple things. Are you familiar with cars? No offense...the serpentine belt burned up and broke? Are you sure it's the alternator? Again, no offense intended, some folks confuse the alternator with A/C compressor.

There is no A/C and there are two belts. The alternator is definitely seized.
