Kia Rio wont start, no lights or anything when I turn the key on.

Asked by LQScream May 11, 2015 at 12:51 PM about the 2005 Kia Rio Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I turn the iginition I don't hear any noise or see any lights. But as I turn the key back to me the lights will show up (dim and jumpy) all while I hear a clicking noise, also I notice while I do this the gauge for the temp of the car will go from below the cold line to just above it. However when I try to start the car again no noise, lights disappear and the temp gauge falls back to under the cold line. This has only happened once but in that instance the car turned back on without issues (I had even turned it on and off a couple of times to see if it will happen again with no issues). The next day it turned on with out issues again, but today its not turning on at all.

Check battery connections or you could have a bad ignition s switch

Thank you. I ended up getting a personal jump starter and found that it will jump and run but I have to rejump it once I turn off the car. Going to get the battery charged at an Auto Zone and hopefully it will hold the charge.

Check the ground that goes from the battery to the body. The surface and threads of the ground mounting area at the body are painted and cause a poor connection.
