Brake light short 2017 kia optima

Asked by Papoochki76 Jun 17, 2018 at 08:38 PM about the 2017 Kia Optima LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The brake light on the passenger side of my
vehicle does not work when i have the headlights
turned on. I replaced the bulb in it and it still only
works when the headlights are turned off. What
could be causing this short?

My car is under factory warranty, so I took it in to a Kia dealership and they told me that it was a known issue with the part. Something with the wiring/lamp harness. They ordered new parts and replaced bulbs for my Optima. Everything is working fine now.

When you take the bulb out of its connector, there is a flexible connector that pushes against the metal casing of the bulb. You have to flex that flimsy metal back out so it is connecting against the metal of the bulb.

Kia offers a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty. My 2017 kia optima was experiencing the same brake light issue. One day brake light would illuminate, next day it would not. Harness’ had to be replaced. Dealership looked “issue” up in their computer and sure enough there was a recall. But not an “Advertised Recall
