Ford edge liftgate issue

Asked by RashIsleem Sep 05, 2018 at 12:34 AM about the 2017 Ford Edge Titanium AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a problem with opening my liftgate, it opens
automatically when i push the button but the
problem is it's not opening completely, 1 or 15 cm
less than the complete open. So i have to pish it up
by manually and it closes perfectly without any
problem.
Can somebody help me with this plz... I keep
forgetting it and hit my head each time i use it

I have a Ford Edge Titanium also and had a similar problem. There is a little button on the left-hand side of the gate you should locate. When the tailgate is open to the position you want, press the button, wait for the confirmation tone/sound and let go. It should open to that same spot again the next time you use the automatic tailgate.

I have a 2018 Edge which has the liftgate that will open when you wave your foot under the vehicle. That only works when the service department demonstrates how to use it. The big problem is that it closes by itself when liading groceries or other cargo on my head. What is causing this? The dealership cant figure it out.

I have the same problem! I don't understand how it works! I really need to go to the dealership and ask them. When I first got it I asked a dealership in Homestead to give me a brief tutorial and they didn't show me squat except tell me I had the top of the line Titanium series

Are you putting your foot under the sensor again when putting things in the boot as this will close it again.

Take this problem into the dealership and get it fixed. Someone could get hurt.

We have a 2019 Ford Edge. The hatch crash down on my head while I was trying to remove something from back of vehicle. I ended up with a severe concussion. Be very careful with this device

I've had the same exact problem. It came down on my head and wouldn't let me manually push it back open. I had to hurry and get out from underneath it because it wasn't stopping. It caused a huge bruise on the back of my arm. I'm just thankful it wasn't one of my kids. This issue could seriously harm someone. That was a few weeks ago and now my trunk isn't getting any power to it at all. You pop the tailgate and it immediately just falls because it doesn't have any resistance at all. Idk what is going on with it.

Wow!! I just read these comments, and I couldn’t be more upset my the lift gate on my car. It hasn’t worked properly since I got the car. I have been hit on the head...maybe when it thought I waved my foot under the special spot, however, I wasn’t waving my foot...just unloading my groceries. The lift gate has also lost power at times. It is not something Thought about until I had issues with the the lift gate opening and catching my garage door. I drive around with duct tape on the plastic piece because it cracked when my car got stuck in my garage. I have a beautiful car with a “Bandaid” on it. It looks horrible, however, it is a lease, and I am not spending over $2000 to repair it. At the time of lease, I will have to figure it out. In the meantime, I am very sorry about this lift gate situation. When I went for my old change, the dealership tested the lift gate and saw that it is definitely malfunctioning and told me to write to the Customer Service Dept. in Nebraska. I am upset because I am on my second Edge and would buy a third!! I could sell them because it is a great car, however, now that I know that so many people have had issues, I feel like I have been had.

Ford is a joke, there is a known Fault Code on the tailgate 'Open Circuit on tailgate motor' that if you don't fix it, it will eventually drain the power from your battery and your car is then inoperable. Thousand of dollars to fix the Fault Code and Ford plays the 'oh well too bad you got the lemon' game. SHAMEFUL and disgusting, going to blast social media about this.
