is there a difference in lower a arm from 1970-1981 trans am

installing hotchkis a arms and 2'' lowering coil springs cant get spring in place
no mater what i do trying to find out if  i have wrong parts or if subframe may
have bin changed but measuements from stock a arms and tubular a arms
are same

yes tryed that compressed spring about 3'' still was not enough directions say new spring should slide wright in but compressing spring could not get it in
