2.5 boxer 4 non turbo

Asked by GuruBTVMJ Dec 18, 2018 at 09:32 AM about the 2003 Subaru Legacy 2.5 L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My timing belt tensioner bolt snapped and it
completely lost timing belt I was running
around 55mph maybe 1800rpm when the
failure accured. Expecting vaulve damage
after removing the intake I noticed that the
intake vaulves for one cylinder was evenly
spaced never closing as I manually cycled
the cam gear by hand. Is it at anyway
possible they are out of adjustment severely
verses needing replacement? And if
replacement is the only option how common
do cylinders become damaged? I have
everything to overhaul the heads but I'm
trying to get a better understanding of these
souped up voltswagon type engines before I
overhaul the engine. And part 2 of my
question is can I easily turbo this Subaru 2.5
with turbo system from a turbo Subaru parts
car?

Yes they all 8 intake vaulves move as I turn the cams by hand but( in one cylinder the two intake vaulves never close completely 1/8in open) after a complete cycle they move a little to open but never seal.

Being said they are roller assembly could they possibly when slapped by the piston set them way out of adjustment rather then bend? I really am trying to learn as much as you Subaru guys are willing to offer your experienced opinion it's obvious that better safe than sorry overhaul it but I really enjoyed my Subaru and being a Chevy Dodge Toyota guy interface engines are completely new to me.
