catalyic converter hanger counter weight?
Why does this hanger have what appears to be a counter weight? Visible in
the top left section of the image..the counter weight looks like a puck.
This is just a guess but it looks like a bumper to me. That webbed part of the converter pipe is actually a flex pipe. It's designed to move with engine torque. That bumper is possibly there to prevent the pipe and converter assembly from banging into the underside of the car under certain conditions. HTH. -Jim
This thing used to hang that curved end of it to rubber doughnut attached to car under body and its support your car flex pipe weight.
By the way i recommend you to get aftermarket high quality catalytic converter,Magnaflow for example, and get rid of this ugly mess.
