2005 Ford Ranger FX4 5 Speed manual delay in trans engagement

Asked by Guru9NV9QD Jan 22, 2022 at 04:48 PM about the 2005 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If engine is not allowed to warm up and the clutch is in gear, the transmission
will violently engage after a period of time. Clutch & seals have been replaced
and trans fluid replaced. Problem still persists.

What you're describing sounds like it coul dbe a clutch that is hanging up on the mainshaft OR a clutch cable that is binding somewhere-just enough to keep the cable core from sliding smoothly................................................ If there is a significant burr or nick ANYWHERE on the grooves or splines in the section of the shaft that the clutch disc has to slide over it can keep the disc from sliding SMOOTHLY into or out of engagement. Or a binding problem with the throwout bearing.

Sounds like something is messed up in the clutch hydraulics..
