Air Intake Hose/Tube

Asked by Starchild1163 Dec 01, 2017 at 03:18 PM about the 2000 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm car illiterate, so bear with me...
Replacing cracked Air Intake
Hose/Tube, to pass inspection.
Looked up part number, by VIN,
and the replacement part number
is 17228-PAA-A00. Ordered it, but
it doesn't look right.
In the attached picture, the top 2
are existing tube/hose.
Bottom includes new part.
Am I missing something?

I think I must be missing something. What is the difference between the two? If it fits, use it.

I have it now! The new one does not have duct tape on it!

Sorry, smartass answer caught me off guard ad pissed me off. The new part has a "hole" that the old one doesn't (see pic below)

You may have received the wrong part packaged under the replacement part number. I did a search on line for the part number you listed and several sites show an illustration of a part that looks like your original part - no port for an external connection. I suggest getting back in touch with the vendor about this.

Another possibility is that this is a universal replacement part and you need a special plug to close off the port on the side of the hose.

Hey there Starchild, I too have the same issue with you ( I have a '97 Accord). What was your final solution to this problem? I almost seemed like the extra port wouldnt fit in the space either.

I took the new part to a mechanic, who gave me a rubber plug that fit snugly enough, then put a clamp around it to secure it. So far, so good. Hope that helps.

The new intake tube is for the ex vtec that has a secondary air box coming off of that connection.

Same thing happened to me but when I looked closer, that port wasn't cutout from inside. Basically it came plugged. Pretty sure it's universal for several different cars.

Also I have 98 ex vtec l4 and mine doesn't have an extra box going to that bottom port. (Just bought the car and want to make sure I'm not missing anything)
