Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Ford Focus SE with 100,000 miles on it. I bought it used with 50,000 mile on it. As far as I know it has never had the timing belt changed. My car is making a vibration sound when I down shift or decelerate. What would be the most common cause for this? Also how would I know it was time to have the timing belt changed?

Yes, at 100k it is time for a timing belt change. The vibration could be from transmission fluid needing to be replaced, or it could be from an engine mount. Have them checked out by a mechanic.

Most likely, with 100k miles, if you never changed the trans fluid, DO IT! =)

The first poster is right. You should have the timing belt changed. The early Foci had problems with engine mounts so a vibration could be coming from that, and depending on how long it's been since your transmission fluid has been changed you should probably change that.
