I was driving home & my rear flange yoke shattered.

Asked by b_wells Jan 04, 2020 at 10:56 PM about the 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: General

Hi, So my rear flange yoke shattered and i had my truck towed home. I cant
get the part for 3 or 4 days. Is it safe or possible to drive it with no rear
driveshaft? My concern is fluid leaking out the back of the tranny/transfer
case. The side that goes into the tranny/transfer is a slip in yoke and the
back on the rear is a bolt on yoke. This is a 2001 Expedition with 5.4 liter
AWD/4x4 with 247,000 miles. Any help would be great, I drive about 100
miles a day for work.

At those miles you should be shopping for another car. I would not drive it without the drivshaft. Like you say you will lose oil and probably ruin the transfer case.

Thanks for you answer. Funny thing is I am getting a new car on Saturday. I am on a mission to get 300K out of her! LOL. I just need to get by on Monday and Tuesday, I am only going 30 miles on both days, total of 60 miles. Is there any way to cap off the back of the transfer/Tranny to stop it from leaking?

I don't think so. Borrow or rent a car or ride share etc. in the meantime.
