My 2015 GMC sierra has engine tick

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had my new truck oil changed at dealership at 5000k, it developed a knock in the front
end. 3 days later of being at dealership they didn't find out what was wrong but it stopped
being noisy. Just had it changed again 12,000 km, and it started ticking again. Took it
back to dealership, they have no idea what is wrong.

Ya know, maybe consider checking Lemon Laws in your State.A new truck should not have a tick, knock, anything like that. As you know, sorry just stating the obvious. Calif has some pretty good Lemon laws, I don't know without looking them up but I do know they are so very much to the benefit of buyer that Dealers hate them and don't want you to know them. Other States it varies greatly. But -can't figure it out - a bad sign that could manifest in to something serious in a year or so.

https://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/lemon --. The law requires that if the manufacturer or its representative in this state, such as an authorized dealer, is unable to service or repair a new motor vehicle to meet the terms of an express written warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, the manufacturer is required promptly to replace the vehicle or return the purchase price to the lessee or buyer. It goes on of course. A tick is a defect, I have no clue on what your is but no matter. The buyer is completely free to choose whether to accept a replacement or a refund. If they don't fix it to your satisfaction, food for thought. Just do Google search (Your State) automotive lemon laws

But it does this only after oil changes...then goes away?

About ten years ago I had bought a 1998 Ford F-150 when I first got it from the dealer started it up one morning it taped for a few seconds then it went away being a mechanic my self I turned the truck off and checked the oil it was a quart low took it back to the dealer and told him what happened and at that time he told me that all fords do that. So I ask them to give me the oil and I will change it my self so the guy goes on the computer and says my truck takes six quarts so I took it went home changed the oil then I let it run for a few seconds turned it off and checked the level and it was a quart low so I found out that at the dealers when they do a oil change they just put in what the book says and do not check after wards so check your oil level your self.

I took it back to the dealership today and they checked the oil and said it was fine. Last time the tick become a knock but did go away. However, to have it happen a second time at such low kms worries me.

If I were you I would check the oil level for my self because they told me the same thing before they gave me my vehicle at that time saying they just changed the oil.

Trust me FordNut that is exactly what I told him but not in so nice words as you used. I call myself firebird because I had a 1969 Firebirds back in the day that was my very first car but when it comes to trucks I am a Ford Man.

Thanks. I will check the oil level. I had thought perhaps they used the wrong oil, but they said they checked. There are no 'lemon laws' in Ontario.

That is very possible it may be the wrong weight oil for your vehicle but you can only go by what they tell you.

Hi firebird338. I only took that down b/c was getting off topic, his question is for GMC. But what it was it's not normal."All Fords do that" is Bull. I have had several Ford trucks, with 360, 390, 351W, 351C, 302 (5.0), 460. None had a tick.On a 1978 F-350 with 351W it went through 4, yes 4 rear main seals before they figured out it had the wrong crankshaft, at the engine building plant in Windsor they put a marine crank in it. The marine application 351 turns the opposite direction. And all those trucks were not mine, we had a family business so I drove them a lot. I still have my '76.

It turns out the Lifters collapsed Should I be concerned that this truck is heading down the lemon path

Does it still tick or just does it when you first start the vehicle ?
