Does the advertised price have to be honored??

Asked by kregelin Dec 14, 2014 at 05:40 PM about the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat RWD

Question type: General

I see an ad for a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat - $61,685. I call dealership, and he knows nothing about that price, says they sell for $20,000 more than that!

How can they advertise falsely? Isn't that illegal??

Might be the classic "Bait and Switch" BS tactics that many Dealers use to get you in the door and try to talk you into another car. I had a problem when I was shopping for my used Infiniti...Price was super low at a Nissan Dealer...only to find out that there were $3,000 worth of fees (Dealer Prep and some other garbage) that was in teeny tiny print at the very bottom of their website. My advice would be to look elsewhere...Dealers that play prices games aren't worth your time! Buy elsewhere, like I did.

Oh yeah,,,and NO, I don't think they are legally obligated to that $61k price, since most ,,if not ALL Dealers state that "We are not responsible for typographical errors in our listings".

This reminds me of when the PT cruiser first came to market, the demand was so great, that the dealers where selling them for, msrp was 16K and they where getting 20-22k for those. but i don't think the demand for the Hellcat is that great, in this economy, is still in the tank, shop around, or order it on line, from two or three diff. dealers web site, and see what the average price is....hope this helps

My brother just bought one in ST. LOUIS. MSRP was 79K, He got it out the door, with employe discount for 6% under dealer invoice. YA RIGTH, THE DEALERS WILL NOT HONOR THE EMPLOYEE UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, ON THE HELLCAT, He payed just under MSRP, loaded with Nav, leather....hope this helps
