Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have had this car for 2 years now I never had any check
engine lights until about 2 months ago the check engine
light reads po171 I have had three different MAF sensors
and I have cleared the check engine light it keeps popping
up my fuel trims go way out of whack my long-term goes all
the way to Max which is 39 and my short-term goes to Max
2 and they fluctuate but long-term normally sits in Max my
idle is about 750 but the problem is when I idle the car we'll
start to suck in and the RPMs will drop down to about 500
and it sounds like it's going to shut off and then it ramps
back up I am honestly at a point where this is ruining my
days I can't figure out what to do I have taken the car to a
mechanic he checked the air intake for leaks and he said
there's no leaks I don't know if he checked all my vacuums
but again I'm starting to think that that is not the issue after
reading a lot of post on here it sounds like I might have an
exhaust clogged but I really don't know what to do anymore
this seems like an issue that I can't solve I really need this
fixed not only is it killing my gas mileage but I would like to
sell the car or trade it in and I really don't want this problem
when I do that I just got an entirely new clutch kit put in can
anyone tell me something that I don't know I have had a
few people tell me that the air intake that I put on because I
no longer have the stock intake I have had my intake on
here for over a year with no problems some people are
telling me that the oil that they put on the filters get sucked
in and coats the MAF sensor but I have cleaned every
sensor and that doesn't fix the issue I have also wiped
down my filter I'm not sure if maybe I'm still leaving oil or if
this is even causing it but I really don't know what to do
anymore if anyone has time to give me advice I would
appreciate it so gratefully I really need help also this check
engine light disables my traction control so when it rains
driving my car is really scary and yes the heat tape I put on
was done very sloppy I only did that to take my intake
temperatures down I'm going to rip it off in put it on better
later

Po171 is a lean code. Check for vacuum leaks first. Perform a smoke test to find it.

The aftermarket air filter tells me you have been messing with the car. Check to see if all the intake air sensors are still plugged in and in the correct places,

How do I perform a smoke test? A mechanic said he check for leaks but I think he only checked the air tube.
