Engine Coolant in the Transmission Fluid

Asked by TheFluffyLlama Mar 31, 2020 at 12:24 PM about the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan American Value Package FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At 96K had the Rockers replaced, due to tapping, as well as having the "transmission rebuilt" by that dealer under the 100K Power-Train Warranty.
Please note that I'm questions that they even did the trans rebuilt.  They did do the rockers as the tapping noise (which seems to be a normal dodge thing) did go away.

I'm not at 102K, so 6k since work was done, 2K over the warranty, and the engine shutters when getting up to high-way speed.  When I asked the dealer, i kind of got the run-around since I'm no longer under warranty.

Anyway, went to a trusted garage do a transmission service.  Replaced the transmission fluid and the filter, which was clogged?!?!?!?!?!?.

The fluid was black and there was water in the fluid.

I did some quick searches and it's possible the water is engine coolant??

As I don't know, how can I test/check if I have a problem where engine coolant is geting into the Transmission??

Thanks

Where else would any water come from if not the tranny coolant lines that run to the radiator ? Unless someone put it there . Is there tranny fluid in your coolant ? Change the fluids and if the problem returns then you have a problem .
