Tail lights, turn signal and brake lights do not work

Asked by LaLa0409 Mar 23, 2018 at 03:26 PM about the 1999 GMC Yukon SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The tail lights, turn signal and brake lights do not seem to be working correctly.  When I turn the lights on the tail lights lite up.  When I step on the brake the driver's side brake light goes out.  If I turn the left turn signal on it blinks, but once you step on the brake it doesn't.  We have changed bulbs, fuses and tried to check the wiring but not knowing the wiring schematics makes it difficult.

Tail lights and brake lights are separate circuits and should not have any "wiring" problems if you know the car's history and have not previously had any problems in this area. The brake lights and hazard flasher lights are one and the tail lights and directional signals are on the other. Double check the bulb types you installed and remove/reinstall them if correct. I believe these are two filament bulbs and they need to be put in the sockets correctly so each filament gets energized by the correct signal. Sounds like the driver side bulb may be the problem.
