What are the long term concerns if my brand new Jetta needs to have the transmission pulled?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just found out that my new Jetta (2014, fewer than 1500 miles) has to have the transmission pulled and repaired. The dealer said it was an " assembly line" problem. What should I be worried about in the long term if this new car has such a problem already? Do I have any recourse in terms of their having sold me a faulty car?

If they are covering as a warranty and no charge to you, then you don't have any recourse, if you are really upset about the problem try contacting a factory rep about your concerns.

This is most likely the recall for the faulty o-ring seals in the transmission cooler. The bad batch of o-rings was detected at the assembly line and only affects vehicle built between Feb 1 and Apr 6. My guess would be they don't have to completely pull the transmission and the entire repair should be covered by VW.

Thanks for the responses. The O-ring recall was for the automatic transmission, not the manual (which I have). The extent of their explanation was that it "must have been an assembly line problem" and that they would have to pull the transmission--the repair will take "2-5 days."

I wouldn't sweat it too much...it's all on them to make it right. If they somehow don't, you have leverage to get them to replace the transmission outright. Added benefit is the car will get a good, thorough inspection.
