Gas type for better gas mileage?

Asked by NT21 Apr 19, 2021 at 03:56 AM about the 2014 Ford Explorer Base

Question type: General

I have read a few responses to this, but I
definitely need some clarity. I have a 14’
explorer flex fuel. When I do E85 gas mileage
downgrades as opposed to putting regular in.
Now, what gas type should I be putting in to
get the best mileage I’m able to? Or is that
how it works? I don’t want to swap better
mileage a for quality by any means. ( I don’t fill
up at random stations, I usually head to either
chevron or shell). I don’t understand any of it
please bare with me lol

E85 is very low energy which means you burn a lot to go the same distance as you would with gasoline. Use E10 gas unless you can get 100% gasoline.

Don't use E85, your mileage will suffer, as FOR said. Don't use any grade other than regular, you won't benefit as you vehicle required 87 octane. I've used regular non-ethonol gasoline and the MPG's will increase slightly, but not worth the additional price per gallon.
