High beam lights

Asked by Jan 17, 2016 at 04:18 PM about the 1981 Pontiac Firebird Espirit

Question type: General

I just purchased a 1981 Pontiac Firebird, and can't find the
high beam switch.  Can someone please tell me how to turn
the high beam lights on?

Should be a pull-on-pull-off movement of the directional signal stalk. Maybe yours is broken due to the age of the vehicle.

That's correct. Pull the turn signal lever toward you for high beams. Then again to switch back to low beams. The switch is mounted on the top of the lower steering column. There's a thin "cable" that goes from the turn signal lever to the switch to activate it. The switch position may be out of adjustment. HTH. -Jim

Or, look on the floor for a large silver metal button. If you have one there, that's the high beam switch. Push it with your foot. Then push it again for low beams. HTH. -Jim

Yea I believe that older model has the floor button which should be top left of your your left foot would go high up on the floorboard and underneath where your feet are and it should be a silver little button top left push on it on and off to turn the high beams on pretty sure.
