Idling Issue & Key Fob Start stooped working?

Asked by AshCastle Nov 11, 2019 at 09:32 PM about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L.
About a month ago I noticed my Key Fob would
start my car but shortly after the car just turns off
and doesn’t stay on. After that, my engine light
came on, and stayed on. When idling it doesn’t
feel normal - not sure how to describe it other than
a “thuttering”. It drives and shifts gears just fine. I
wouldn’t have noticed anything was wrong
besides the key and when at a stop light or stop
sign.

Took it to 1 shop and they said it was “just a spark
plug” - from what I read it could be! It fixed the
engine light briefly but it came right back. Took it
to the Jeep dealership and they said “you need a
new cylinder head” WAIT...WHAT?

I am the 2nd owner and my Jeep has 60k miles on
it. Suddenly I need a new engine?

Any thoughts what it might be? Could it REALLY
be the cylinder head? I don’t drive the car like a
drag racer - I mostly drive highway miles and the
car drives FINE with the exception of the 2 issues
listed.

hello, I have exactly the same problem in my jeep grand cherokee, I took it to the store the light disappeared and turned on again, you got another option you could know that it was or still you are still with the same problem

So I went to the Jeep dealership and they said that the computer read that cylinder 5 was mis-firing. About a week later the engine light disappeared, and the rough idle stopped. Super interesting how it has all unfolded. My Dad believes I probably had bad gas which caused the mis-fire. I don’t know much about cars, but that seems like a likely scenario? I wish I had more to report back on :( I don’t know what caused all of the symptoms (key fob/auto start, rough idle, engine light). I will ask, the service manager at the dealership said that when the engine light is on the auto start will not work and the cruise control will also not work. For me this was only partially true as my cruise control worked fine. So the auto start is by default of the engine light being on.
