Should I buy a Lincoln Town Car 1989?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a Lincoln Town Car 1989. The owner has kept it nice
and it has 168,873 kms on it. It runs nice and both interior and exterior work
fine. He mentioned that he took the car from Sherwood Park to Regina back
and forth twice without any issues. ~760 Km distance just one way.

My neighbour who is a car salesman told me "don't buy that bloody car! it
bankrupted me, parts are nearly impossible to fix, mechanics will rip you off
since it is a classic old car and you would have to invest a fortune just fixing
it, just lease and be happy with a new car every couple years".

I have heard that those cars are very reliable and parts are easy to find and
are not very complicated as it is a Ford.

What are your thoughts on this matter? I am not really mechanically inclined.

Your feedback is much appreciated,

Alejandro

2 Grand (Canadian) with winter tires, but I will ask him to knock off at least 400 since I don't need the tires, because I will only use it in summer.

He also says it's a 'mechanics special' does that raise a flag?

Check for rust/rot on the frame and rocker panels. If no rot, buy it. I had an ‘87 which is almost identical. The ‘89 was the last year of the truly, American Style, formal looking Town Car. Nothing I know of rides down the highway like those older, formal looking Town Cars.
