Sell or keep my car?

Asked by Kwabena Nov 01, 2020 at 11:12 AM about the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Base

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

Well, I have a volkswagen jetta 2013 and I dont
have any issues. I bought it in Janaury of 2020 and
it has been great so far.  However, in 3 years or
less, I will be paying it off, and wondering if I
should sell it to get an older japanese car or I
should just keep it? I was told japanese cars are
more reliable after 10+ years and that europeen
cars tend to be expensive to repair. I have not
experience any expensive repair yet, but I'm
wondering, if i should get an older car like honda or
toyota and use it instead of a volkswagen that will
be 10+ years in 3 years.

If I sell, maybe make a profit of 4-5k and used
partially to buy an old japanese car that will be
reliable and especially good for me to do more
uber eats.

I am currently doing uber eats with my car but not
too much. I don't drive too much in general except
for the essential destinations like; groceries
shopping and seeing my family.

Another thing with me, I am the type of person who
will fix an issue right away,  before it gets worse.

Driving wise, I am expecting to drive up to 10 to
12k a year (includes delivering ubereats)

So, should I keep my car? I love it and all but I want
to make sure, I don't pay too much repairs compare
to an older japanese car.

I would keep it. At least until it starts giving you trouble. I bought my 2008 Grand Marquis in 2012, paid it off in 2016, and have had one repair bill of $495 to repair the instrument cluster. The car is 12 years old and I plan on keeping it at least another three years. When the day comes that it starts nickle and diming me it will have to go. But until then I figure I'm ahead of the game since I have no car payment and no repair bills, yet. I think you'll be ahead of the game too if you continue with a good maintenance plan. I wouldn't be surprised if you get another 7 or 8 years out of your Volkswagen! Hope that helps! Jim
