1999 dodge dakota. Won't shift past 1st gear

Asked by Mike Aug 26, 2020 at 04:25 AM about the 1999 Dodge Dakota SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hoping someone can give me an easy pointer.
Dodge Dakota 1999, SLT, 5.2, 4X4
Yesterday i changed my condensing unit, in doing so we
unhooked the transmission cooling house to get it out of
the way.  Wrapped all up... forgot to reattach the hose. Drive
down the road,  dumbed 4+ quarts of tranny fluid in the
road.  Have pave 4 quarts back in. Stick Says it's full. But
will not shift... worked great before the mis-hap.  Any
suggestions on getting the fluid back into the harmonic
balancer? It's the only thing i can think of. It just won't shift
any more... It's my only vehicle.  Any advice would be great
(don't have a budget to fix it at a shop) thanks!

There’s a shift Selinoid and a governor pressure valve silinoid under the tranny pan when u drop the pan more then likely it’s one of those two had the same happen to me but if ur speed ometer quit working and won’t shift 2 to then it’s the speed sensor on the top of the reared I’d try that first it be the cheapest and easyer fix..
