Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger and it’s been sitting
for about 4-5 months with the last 2 months being
pretty cold. I recently went to unlock the car and
realized the battery was almost dead so I tried
starting it and all it would do is click then I killed the
battery. I charged it for 15 minutes with another car
and all it would do is click or crank for about 1-2
seconds then cut back off on its own. All the
electronics were working but can’t get it to start, I’m
thinking the battery is done for but I’m not a
mechanic and I’ve already put way to much money
into this car and hate to have to put more in.
Anyone might have any suggestions on the cause
of this problem? It would be greatly appreciated!

I also noticed when I took the jumper cables off that the battery was losing power almost immediately as the horn sounded very faint when I locked the doors. Horn sounded fine when the car was plugged in

A discharged battery usually needs 24 hours at a slow charge to charge completely. Depending how old the battery is you may need a new one. Take your car down to your local auto parts store and let them do a load test on the battery and charging system.
