Start by testing battery. If battery is dead, test alternator. Did bad alternator kill battery?

This is not the first time doing this. The first time it started up a few minutes later. The second time I sat there 45 minutes and it just started. The 3rd time is when we changed out the computer and fuse box. We cleaned the ground wires and finally started after two days. Then last night we was getting on the highway and it just died and lost all power.
