2012 Subaru Outback Transmission Issue

Asked by GuruJ3J68 Aug 11, 2020 at 01:12 PM about the 2012 Subaru Outback 2.5i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2012 Subaru Outback just suddenly stopped in the road and started
flashing lights. It will not drive forward but did go in reverse.

The lights on the dash are: 'Cruise' 'Break' 'AT OIL TEMP' and 'Check
Engine'

This car (that I was JUST starting to like) was purchased a year ago from a
Subaru dealer. It showed now obvious signs of transmission issues prior to
this happening. I had brought it to the dealership and explained there is a
humming noise, to which the certified subaru mechanic said 'tHatS hoW
SubAru's SoUnD'. Now I think they played me. I still owe 5k on this car.

Is this a total transmission loss or is it fixable do you think?

The AT OIL TEMP means that the automatic transmission fluid is too hot. Let it sit and cool off for a few hours then get it to the dealership and have them check the fluid level in the transmission. Or check the fluid level yourself and add the CORRECT fluid if low. Either way I would get it to a shop and have the transmission fluid flushed and refilled.
