Misfire cylinder 6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Code P0306 cylinder 6 misfire. Mechanic thinks it
could be the lifter but not sure. Changed spark
plugs, switched coil pack didn’t change. Any other
ideas before the expensive “try”?

The next thing you can do is to swap Fuel Injectors, and see if the misfire moves to the cylinder it was swapped to. Could be a clogged injector or a bad injector connector..

Had a similar problem on a buick once, ended up being a spark plug boot cracked and shorting on the engine block. you could also try swapping a plug wire and see what happens.

Spark Plug, Coil, Broken Valve Spring, Bent Pushrod, Stuck Valve, Broken Rocker Arm, Flat Cam Lobe, Etc. Etc. Pull the valve cover and do some looking. Is it making and unusual ticking sounds? How many miles on it? Hemi engine?

All new push rods and rocker arm. Tried the spark plugs and coil swap. It really isn’t. It only misfires at idle. Runs down the highway fine. 130,000 and yes Hemi. 2012 Ram 1500

Have you done a compression test on all cylinders? Broken or weak valve spring is a common problem on the 5.7.

Hi Justin.. Having same problem.. I am changing the plugs.. Wish I knew which one was 6. How much did the lifter job cost?

Hey Dave, it was around $2700 I think. That was with new head gaskets, lifters, plugs and cam shaft. The cam shaft took almost 3 weeks to get here though. It came directly from Dodge. So be ready for that

Oh my! My 2012 Charger has 171000 miles on it. What if I just drive it with the misfire and the shaking in idle mode? Not sure what to do.. put $4000 into last year. I am 4 years in on a 6 year loan ( bought out my lease) and still owe $12000 on it. Love the car but not sure when to cut my losses :(

I didn't have the shaking in idle. That's a tough decision cause I doubt you could get $12000 out of it. Did changing the plugs not work?

I have a 2002 dodge ram and it’s doing the same. Shaking when idle and p0306 code. Does anyone have an idea where cylinder 6 is located for this model truck?? I replaced spark plugs and One injector about 3 months ago and then started doing this.

I have the same model and year truck and have been through 3 engines basically. One time was the head gasket so won't count that because it was a poor job done previously. But these hemi's have a cam failure problem and has happened twice to me now since I bought it in 2016. Dodge knows about this yet have done nothing about it. Besides that (the engine going out) it is a great truck.

Same issue with cylinder 6 misfire and throwing a code. Several days ago it also threw insufficient catalyst operation, evap system leak and gas cap leak. Tbe trick was made Nov 2010 and has 360,000 kms on it. We have aleeady tried swapping coils and plugs and it runs great from idle to about 4100 rpm where the misfire starts. I wondered about 13 yrs of oxidation on computer connections. I pulled off all connectors and no visible corrosion. Plugged them all back in, did up ground cable and drove it for 15 miles. No check engine, no codes. Catalyst, evap, gas cap, misfire all gone. Took it over 4,000 rpm and the miss is still there. All others still gone though. So will try #6 fuel injector on Monday and use stethascope to listen for valve train noise. Nithing audible to my old ears. Even with kms and age it runs like new to 4,000 rpm
