CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON
WHEN WEATHER IS COOL SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AFTER ABOUT 4 BLOCKS
OF DRIVING, STAYS ON ABOUT 6 BLOCKS AND THEN GOES OFF..I NOTICED
ENGINE IDLEING DOWN, AND LIGHT GOES OFF
May need to check and make sure cable,s are clean and tite, and maybe have battery load tested to make sure it is good,if all this is good ,go have alternator checked, may be randomly charging,on and off.
cables are clean and tested,,new battery,,,cant check if light isnt on. i think maybe alternator is weak,,,but then the idle thing is wierd
Low or no power from alternator will drag engine back,
T S T is right about low voltage output, but also a hard charge rate will also cause an idle problem as the engine load from the alternator will greatly increase, get this checked out as soon as possible, your electronics can't stand voltage surges, and the way you described your symptoms that is what you are getting. Hi, I am having the same issue and i checked charging rate it goes from 20 to 24. When it hits 24 i am getting the check charging warning. Any idea's of what i should be looking at to get this fixed?
jonasu25 year, make, model please.
Sorry, 2007 Ford taurus. I replaced the Alt and Batt. the voltage is 14.0 and 14.3 but it seems as soon as the temp gets to the middle (above 84) in the engineering mode i get the check charging warning. I have cleaned the connections, but i haven't checked the ground to make sure that is clean. I am just at a lost. Thank you for replying to such an old post.
Also I replaced both the Alt and Batt over 4 months ago and the light just now started coming back on. Also my AC does not work so i do not know if this is related to the check charging system or not. The vent is stuck on the defrost but i have youtube this and it might be something different.
I believe that the alternator is controlled by the ECM on your vehicle, getting the codes checked could turn something up, if there aren't any viable codes then have the car checked using a "live data" scanner, that usually nails things down.
