2011 Escape, check engine light comes on
My check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago. Went to Advance and they read the codes which told me that I had a slight leak in the gas cap area. This system has no cap so we manipulated the flapper a bit and the light went out. I had the oil changed at the dealership on my 2011 Escape a week later. I drove less than a mile and the check engine light came on. Instead of paying Ford to put it on the machine I took it back to Advance and again it showed a a slight leak in the in the around the flapper where you insert the gas nozzle when filling up. When we got home my husband unhooked the ground to reset everything and viola! the light went out. It stayed out for a week and it is now on again. I could run back to Advance, but I know what the result will be. The car runs great, is getting very good mileage, and all appears to be super except for the check engine light. Any suggestions?
Depending on your mileage and build date you may still have warranty on your vehicle. If not its not a mojor problem here it will not affect fuel mileage or running but the check engine light will keep coming on. and it may not be the fuel flap there are other things in the evap system that can fail and cause a leak.
I agree with kbro. it still maybe covered under warranty, call your local ford dealer and give them the VIN then they can tell you if it is still under emissions warranty.
I have a 2011 Escape. Just this summer I was getting the message to check the fuel fill. Of course I do not have a cap and ran it for about a week and then the check engine light went out. It has now came on and went off several different time. I called the dealer service manager and asked if they are seeing a lot of this. He said that they had and they have to take apart the fuel fill area and clean it out. I asked then about how much this would cost and it said that every one that they had worked on was still on warranty. Of course I do not have a warranty anymore.
