How much will a new set of brakes cost me for my 2011 Jetta?

That all depends on how far you have to go with repairs, sometimes as cheap as 125 bucks right on up, really need more information, do you need new brake rotors, calipers, hoses, etc.

I haven't yet had them looked at, but they sound bad, mostly rubbing. There aren't a lot of miles on the car, about 36K.

36K is around the time to replace. Pads and rotors, like tennisshoes said, if your doing the work yourself then $125, expect to pay around $400 if you have a shop do it.

If they are making noise then chances are you have already ruined the rotors, fix them right away, at this point you could start loosing braking ability, metal on metal is not good.
