On till it stops. When you hear a loud BANG and you lose all power, including your brakes and steering, you'll know.

How's it running? Any noises? If not, you're ok. Running an engine even 3 quarts low on oil usually won't hurt it. I'm NOT suggesting that you neglect you engine like that. But it could be someone is trying to sell you an engine that you don't need!! HTH. -Jim
