Why would my coolant chamber or reservoir be bubbling?

Asked by Oct 09, 2014 at 12:27 PM about the 2002 Volkswagen Passat GLX 4Motion

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had the check coolant light come on the dashboard and I went to Valvoline for them
to check and put more into it. I noticed it took a while and the person stated that it was
boiling hot with steam coming out of it. I was wondering what would be the possible cause
or causes for this?

A bad thermostat. Bad radiator cap. Plugged up radiator. Blowen. Head gasket. Start there.

Mark is right, but I lean to bad cap most likely. If it is weak, the pressure will be released in to overflow tank, or reservoir, and boil because it's not under pressure. Hopefully that's what it is, other stuff he listed, and a good list it is, is more expensive, in the order he has it

It was chewy but tolerable. I found a brand of hot dogs from Australia that are real good! And Hunts Baked Beans but in a tin pouch! We have satellite TV and there must be like 5 or 6 food channels on the darn thing. I'll be playing with my son and out of the corner of my eye I'll catch an Out Back Steak House add........ For Singapore :>( !
