What are possible causes for multiple rear tire flats for a 2003 BMW 330 ci convertible?
I have had several rear tires go flat and fall apart within just a few months. The tires look as if a knife were inserted on the interior and run around the entire tire.
I've been taking the car back to different Firestone locations to have them replaced (under warranty) but they each give me a different potential cause (from a I ran over a nail and when the tire expanded with the hot weather the nail caused the tire to fall apart to a bent rim). With a few exceptions for occasional weekend trips, throughout this year I drive the car just a few days a week and put maybe 100 miles a week on it. I have about 96,000 miles on the car.
I am flummoxed by this problem. Any ideas?
Sounds like the chamber is off, have your car aligned (4 wheel). If it's not in the proper spec, you will have this issue. Maybe one of your busings or suspension components is worn/bent. Have a BMW shop do the alignement for you, most other chain shops like Firestone do not have the knowledge.
Good to know. I thought maybe there was an alignment connection but had had it checked a couple of times at Firestone. I'll definitely take it to a BMW shop. Thanks for the quick reply.
The nail and hot weather is just about the silliest thing I have ever heard. BTW you can trust Tom
Ha! I ignored the nail thing; it sounded ridiculous to me, too. I have an appointment for an alignment check on Wed at a BMW shop. And I mentioned the camber and the guy on the phone said that sounded right. Hopefully, I'll get this resolved.
