Spare tire and wheel

Asked by GuruTLRRH Jun 29, 2018 at 06:39 AM about the 2011 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab 4-Door 4WD

Question type: General

I just bought this truck knowing that it needed new tires. While shopping for
tire I inspected the spare and noticed it is a different size wheel and tire to
what is on the ground. The wheels and tires on the ground match the door
sticker. Is the normal? Shouldn’t they match?

Thank you “tennisshoes” for your answer. Your answer makes it clear that I did a poor job of describing my situation and thus my questions. The wheels/tires on the ground are 235-75-15’s while my spare is a 235-70-16. Is this original from the factory? Shouldn’t the match?

I also have a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab 4-Door 4WD. I bought it used from a Ford dealership in 2013 with 15K miles on it. I've taken my spare out to clean and inspect it regularly, but never really looked at the size until now. I have the exact same situation, so I'm guessing it's more than a coincidence.

I bought my 2006 Ranger Sport brand new in 2006 and it has 15" wheels and tires on it but the spare is 16" so I am just like the rest of you with an odd size tire for a spare. Maybe they hired an idiot and put him in charge of the spare tires or maybe the idiots that are in charge told them if they ran out of 15" spares to go ahead and use 16" spares or more likely they just got a good deal on those 16" ers. I have used mine when rotating tires in the driveway and yes the bolt pattern fits. Looks like we have a mystery.
