4wd transfer control module

Asked by Dispatier Apr 12, 2018 at 02:42 PM about the 2005 Ford Ranger 2 Dr Edge 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck is stuck in 4wd low, which seems to be
not uncommon, and is attributed to the transfer
control module, however, when I opened up the
passenger kick plate to find the module, it isn't
there.. where else would it be located?

The problem is with the actuator, that is bolted to the transfer case,It's not a computer issue.

Mine is a 2011 ford ranger. Its not on passenger side... Its behind the radio on the left. Take out 2 screws under radio and very small flat head screw driver and pry face and radio out. Disconnect a few plugs on the sides and should be able to pull radio out of way to get to the module.

Saying it is not a module issue is not necessarily correct. It's electronics, if the module is malfunctioning no telling how the transmission will respond. Troubleshooting without a schematic is precarious at best.
