Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The security light is flashing and it won't crank. I've
unhooked the battery for 12 hours, turned on the key for 30
min, rubbed both posts together for 2 min (I know). The
security light keeps flashing still. Can anyone help me  ????

The problem is most likely the lock cylinder. You have the VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft Security) system. The replacement lock cylinder will come with a template for making new ignition keys. BUT you must visit a GM dealer or a good lock smith to determine which VATS key you have. There were 15 possibilities. Otherwise the new keys won't work. I'm assuming your ignition key has a chip on it like the one pictured. HTH. -Jim

Yes, but it turns over. The fuel pump doesn't click on like you'd normally hear, replaced the fuel pump. Still the same thing. I have 2 sets of keys and it does it with both.

Have you checked or replaced the fuel pump relay & the fuel pump fuse? HTH. -Jim

Just put a new fuel pump sending unit on it

Relays and fuses too.

You'll need to see if you have power at the fuel pump. If so, the pump is defective. HTH. - Jim

This is the dreaded antitheft security system. Look for a picture on the dash when this happens that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it. This a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, or not seen at all. When the communication breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. (like it thinks it's being hot wired) The car shuts down because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. It will either turn off the starter, or the fuel injectors. The vehicle may run for 2-3 seconds before shutting down.
