I have the same problem. I changed the coils, I change the spark plugs, Put in new o2sensors, even bought a brand new TPS or throttle position sensor. Nothing helped in fact it got worse. I hooked it up to an AUtel maxi scanner and apparently coils B and Dvare misfiring and when I look online it says there are several reasons that this could be. One is vacuum leak somewhere and I have extensively searched and found nothing. Another is clogged catalytic converter. But the list goes on and on. Right now I am taking off the exhaust to look for a clog in the catalytic converter because when I stopped from driving a short distance, underneath the car the exhaust pipes were red hot. Obviously there’s a clog somewhere but I have a feeling that after that unclog there’s still gonna be a misfire on coil B and D. So we tested all of the electrical from ignition coil to the rest of the harness all the way up to the PCM or powertrain control module and I think that came to the general consensus that it is the PCM that is causing the Misfire. Next on the list is re-flashing the PCM or unfortunately replacing the PCM /reprogramming it. This is all very expensive. When it’s all said and done I may as well be a certified ford technician based on all the information I have studied and practiced. I have the pcm flashing just about memorized I just don’t have access to the oem software or accessories it calls for to do such a job. Or the funds to purchase a license. So I’m trying everything else first that I know how to do. After I’ve exhausted every other possibility, and I almost have, I will have to resort to a certified ford technician to flash the pcm or reprogram a new one. Grrrr....these ford escapes cause nothing but problems.
