BMW overheating

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 BMW 325i, up until last week
it ran great! On the way home from a day
trip I started to notice it didn't have its
typical amount of power while going up hill.
The next day it started to idle rough and
was difficult to get it to accelerate in town.
The following day it I got gas, about 5
gallons, and immediately noticed a
powerful gas smell in my car. I had hubby
look at it that night and he drove it down
the road. It died after about two blocks. It
would turn over but not start. We replaced
the fuel pressure regulator/filter. Also
noticed a small hole in the fuel line. Spliced
it and clamped in a connectior. The car
started, and gas light was on. Put in 1.5
gallons and it's running, but it's rough,
idling rough, shifting hard, the tachometer
is not working and the temp gauge
immediately maxes out hot. Please help!

Could it possibly be a compression issue? How many miles do you have on your 2002 BMW?

At the moment, I would say it could be anything. It has 150k on it, I have owned it for the last 30k and zero issues until now

The temperature gauge is all over the place. Even when the key is only in position two.

150,000 miles? The next 50,000 miles could be a rough ride in repairs, watch out.

I've owned a 5 series, 7 series and another 3 series. This is the first of 4 (all used with over 100k) to give me much more than basic maintenance issues.

Tried a hard reset, didn't notice any change. Hoping hubby is home early enough to check for vacuum line leaks and ground connection issues.
