antifreeze leaking

Asked by Ambini Feb 04, 2016 at 01:02 AM about the 1995 BMW 3 Series 318ti Wagon RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,
I have a manual 1995 bmw 318ti that has recently
started over heating. I checked it to see if it was
low on antifreeze but it was completely empty
even thought the day before when i checked it the
tank was full. I got it home then the next day i took
a better look at it. I figured it might be the water
pump but it was leaking by the engine i could see
exactly where. I was given two different
diagnostics of what it may be but im not exactly
sure. I was told it could just be the freeze plug or it
may just be the water pump. I really need another
opinion

Most likely a water pump or leaking hose/gasket - Freeze plugs do fail but its rare and caused by corrosion in a neglected cooling system.
