Jeep door locks

Asked by LetsGoBucs Aug 12, 2016 at 07:36 AM about the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: General

I lock my doors with the fob. Door locks
properly go down and alarm sounds.
However, I lift the door handles and the
vehicle opens right up! Any ideas??

Do you have the Mopar dealer-installed remote starter? I believe they have a known issue with those interfering with remote/fob operation. The workaround now is to put the key back in the ignition so it is read by the security system correctly and remove it then try the fob again. http://www.myjeepcompass.com/forums/repairs-mechanical-problems-questions/135-remote-locking-unlocking-doors-problem.html

Lock the door with either the FOB key or door handle lock. Place the FOB key at least 2 meters away from the vehicle. Open the door through the door handle. It should be locked. The door automatically unlock when you approach it with the FOB key. I don't think this is an issue. The purpose really is that the door will not lock with the FOB key nearby or INSIDE the vehicle. This prevents you from being locked out with the key inside your vehicle. This, I figured out in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.

If you have the key fob on you or anywhere near the car when you lift the door handle, it automatically unlocks.
