Used car warranty

Question type: General

I will soon be purchasing (I hope) an 8 to 9 year old
Subaru Outback or Toyota RAV4. I do not know anything
about cars and mechanical issues, but I do know that I do
not want to get screwed! Due to my financial position, this
car will more than likely have anywhere from 65,000 to
100,000 miles on it. I am doing as much research as I
know how on these 2 models of cars. Though I plan to
have it heavily inspected by a trusted mechanic of
20+years I would feel more secure in purchasing a
warranty. My questions are: must I purchase the warranty
through the dealer I am buying the vehicle from, what
levers log coverage should I purchase and expect to pay
and knowing that you probably can’t, is there a specific
Warranty company which you could recommend?
Thanks so much, Cris

You can buy a warranty on your own if you like. Do research to find the good ones as some are pretty much scams. The extended warranty that Subaru dealers sell are good.

Check with your credit union, if you are financing part or all of the purchase...they usually offer a much lower and similar extended warranty....oh, , by the way.i would skip the extended warranty... I purchased one and never used it...my 2010 Subaru Outback Limited has over 85,000 miles and runs like the day I purchased it....if you must get it... should not cost more than $500 The credit union warranty actually exceeded the details of the Subaru warranty and was 2 thirds LESS EXPENSIVE...... don't see how the Subaru warranty translates to good value... unless you're Subaru... ..The Toyota RAV4 doesn't need any warranty at all.. Hope this helps.
